Profile: Soumayan Biswas

Hi, I'm Soumayan Biswas from Hooghly India

My name is Soumayan Biswas, a self-taught street and documentary photographer from Hooghly, West Bengal. Growing up in a middle-class family shaped the way I see the world—finding meaning in the ordinary, beauty in the overlooked, and stories in places most people pass by. While I work a private job to support my living, my true calling begins the moment I hold a camera.

Photography is my language. It is how I listen to the world and speak back through images. I am drawn to the unscripted rhythms of daily life—the quiet moments, the raw emotions, the struggles and joys that shape human experience. I believe powerful stories live in everyday spaces, and my work is an attempt to honour them with honesty and empathy.

Without formal training, my journey has been built on curiosity, experimentation, and constant learning from the world around me. Every photograph I create reflects who I am: grounded, observant, and deeply connected to my surroundings. Through my images, I hope to preserve moments that might otherwise disappear, and celebrate the resilience, dignity, and spirit of the people who inspire me.
