about me
Profile: Alexandru Botezatu

Hi, I'm Alexandru Botezatu

Drawing on both modernism, and the sacral tradition of „sous verre“ painting, Alexandru Botezatu primarily works through a unique form of 3-dimensional analog montage, in which each soot residue clipped image is preserved within laminated glass sheets to form grand pictographic allegories, which the artist calls “dimensions of existence”.

His artwork lies in a space between the 2 and 3 dimensions. In his work, he explores phenomena, space transformation, color, symbols of change, and the thresholds of form and perception.

These kaleidoscopic works often relate to concepts of human preconditioning and limitation relationship and challenging the borders each of us is born with by understanding what is in our reach in order to embrace freedom as status quo. The self-standing frames are limited to the abstraction (deconstruction) of a thing or the living body but brought together they form a comprehensive, consolidated, reconstruction-preservation of the portrait of one’s existence.

Botezatu’s 3-dimensional practice can be seen as a photographer on one side, while also running a descriptive artist’s studio on another, and as a designer&mentor.

He is also in very close connection with nature. Interconnected, we would say, even.
Nature preoccupies him, and conserving its beauty is one of his core goals. He choses to do that with the ease of classical photographic medium and also helped by the portable, easy-to-use digital alternatives.
His Konika Hexar AF and the iPhone are within reach every time he approaches the landscapes back home or afar. A con

Preservation. Mindfulness. Consciousness are the drivers of his values.
