About Rik Roos

Rik Roos is a Dutch photographer based in Amsterdam. He often explores intimate, emotional themes such as longing, doubt, loneliness, and regret—personal in origin but carrying a universal resonance.

With the Dutch actress Claire Bender, Rik recently created the series “Are We Two Strangers Now?”, a visual investigation into the pain and despair caused by 'ghosting'—the sudden, unilateral, and unexplained breaking of contact by a loved one. This contemporary phenomenon, amplified by social media, affects young people in particular and exposes the vulnerability of digital relationships.

Rik received an international New York Resilience Award for this photo series, and a selection has been exhibited in 2026 at the Agora Gallery in Manhattan, New York City (USA), at the Hackney Gallery (London) and at the BBA Gallery (Berlin). In 2026 Rik won the 1st prize in the global One Shot Award.

Influenced by arthouse cinema and modern art history, Rik’s photography draws from a wide range of visual traditions. In 2025, Rik self-published an artist book titled Echoes of Desire, in which paper and folding techniques allow the reader to physically experience the struggle of a midlife crisis—an emotional topic that men rarely speak about openly. That same year, his work appeared in PF Magazine and the Visual Poetry Journal.

Rik graduated in 2025 from the Fotoacademie (FOAC) in Amsterdam and previously studied photography for two years at the International Center for Photography (ICP) in New York.
