About Nestor Robayo

I was born in Bogotá, and from a very early age I developed a particular fascination with light. After completing my studies in cinematography, I left Colombia to specialize in photography. I began my photographic career working for various international media outlets covering the country's armed conflict. My deep interest in photography led me to exhibit my work in countries such as Spain, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, and Peru, and earned me distinctions including the "Best Young Photographer Award" granted by the Fototeca Salmantina, in recognition of my participation in the exhibition *Colombia: Ritual and Festive*.

My relentless passion for light has drawn me into numerous print projects, exhibitions, workshops, and photographic showcases. My work has attracted the attention of leading organizations such as National Geographic, The New York Times, Alpina, Energizer, Caprino, Texmoda, Transmilenio, Falabella, and Tuscany, all of which have used my images as visual assets in their campaigns and features.

Light ultimately led me to fall in love with moving images, and I transitioned into cinematography. Commercials, music videos, documentaries, feature films, and short films I have photographed have been recognized with various awards and honors, including two nominations for Best Cinematography in a Short Film at the Salón Internacional de la Luz — the first in 2011 for the short film *La Muerte de Marco Ruíz*, and the second in 2018 for *Helena*.

My images have accompanied some of the most prominent names in music. Artists such as Marcos Witt, Jiggy Drama, Juan Pablo Vega, Martina la Peligrosa, Pornomotora, and Jesús Adrián Romero have shot their music videos with me. My documentaries have been broadcast on some of the world's most prestigious television networks, including Discovery Channel, National Geographic, CBC (Canadian national television), ABC News, and History Channel.

I have served as Director of Photography on five feature films and more than thirty short films, and have contributed to numerous other productions as gaffer, camera operator, drone operator, and underwater camera operator. I continue to work actively today — writing film criticism for various digital publications, teaching at the university level, and leading photography and filmmaking workshops.
