About Jimi Boyle

City in Pause records London during the 2020 lockdown, when familiar streets and transit spaces fell silent. Over months of walking Tooley Street and the areas around London Bridge, I photographed empty high streets, rain‑slicked pavements, and the Underground’s deserted tunnels. I was drawn to moments where light and surface turned the ordinary into something cinematic: neon reflections on wet asphalt, a lone maintenance worker in a yellow jacket, the geometry of a tunnel lit by repeating lamps. My process was simple—return to the same places, wait for the light and the small human traces, and use available light and tight framing to preserve authenticity. The series is an attempt to hold a record of a city in suspension and to consider how absence reshapes public rituals. Rather than a chronicle of loss alone, these images aim to show quiet resilience and the dignity of everyday work that continued even when the streets emptied.
